Annoyed Gamer Episode 3

Marcus gets “rantastic” in this brand new episode, as he digs his daggers into an internal DLC dilemma!

Tech Demo Shows Off CryEngine 3

Well, we already know that Crysis 3 looks beautiful. But do you know just how beautiful? Just what tech is powering all the god rays and gently rustling ferns? This new tech demo shows off just what we'll be seeing in the upcoming shooter, down to the very pixels.

Gosh, wasn't that the most brilliant frog you've ever seen? Okay, there sure was a lot of technical jargon that my poor everyman brain can't handle (I'm pretty sure "tessellated vegetation" is served alongside my vegetarian meals, for one thing), but we know this much: it looks damned pretty. The only question is: how well will this be optimized for those of us who don't have benchmark systems? In any case, I'm really looking forward to this one -- the gameplay as much as the graphics.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Developer Diary Fills in the Gaps

What didn't we see inside the steamy, intricate, black resin walls of the Xenomorph hive in James Cameron's Aliens? What other types of Xenomorphs are there and what do these different types do? More than just a sci-fi nerd discussion topic, it's something the devs at Gearbox are exploring deeply in Aliens: Colonial Marines. Learn how in the latest developer diary.

Dishonored Creative Kills Trailer

This you gotta see. The latest trailer for Dishonored, aptly named Creative Kills, shows off some of the more devious ways Corvo can take enemies off of the Dunwall census. The video features not only the best kill I've seen thus far in Dishonored, it's one of the coolest moves I've ever seen in a game. It's called Friendly Fire, and I can't wait to put it to use.

LOTRO: Developer Diary Explains Mounted Combat

This is looking grand. Rolling hills... ponies... bloodshed... well, probably the latter. Mounted combat is coming to Lord of the Rings Online in the next expansion pack, Riders of Rohan, and this developer diary is here to explain it.

I wasn't sure how this would pan out at first -- I thought it might be more gimmick than anything -- but with developers mentioning that entire groups could be planning strategies around mounted combat, it sounds that this might actually have some advantages. The expansion's out September 5th.

Microsoft's Outlook.com Previewed

The crew at Engadget have a pretty detailed breakdown of Microsoft's new Outlook.com and all of its new features.

In Outlook.com, the storage is "virtually" unlimited, to use Microsoft's words. (The company won't fully promise unlimited storage, since it needs a way to hedge against spammers.) That compares with 10GB of free storage on Gmail. Not bad, eh? Also, as you might know, every Microsoft account comes with 7GB of SkyDrive storage, so that's what you'll get if you're new to the company fold. Also, anyone can sign up; you don't need an invitation, and there's no limit to the number of people allowed to test the service in its preview stage.

Real World Mech?

If it comes with the pilot, I'll take two.

Rise of the Triad Exclusive Reveal Trailer

Old school gamers rejoice! It looks like they are remaking Rise of the Triad. For those of you that don't remember ROTT, watch the video below the reveal trailer. If you are feeling really nostalgic, download the demo here. Thanks to dr.stevil for the heads up.

This Rise of the Triad reboot sure isn't afraid to show its roots. In a gaming landscape where most shooters have gone the modern or near-future route, Rise of the Triad looks to stick to the arcadey action that made us all fall in love with the early days of shooters. It's got all the important stuff: rocket jumps, absurd weapons, and Nazis. I mean, really, what else could you ask for?

I absolutely love the ridiculous traps, the crazy cultists, and the super fast action that the trailer is showing off. I'm getting the "so old it's new again" vibe from it, which is great.

Hands On With The Oculus Rift

The crew at Legit Reviews got a little hands on time with the Oculus Rift today. The prototype may look funny but, according to the article, it works. Hit the link for the complete rundown.

First Beer in Space

How would you test that "super cold" label on cans of Coors Light? I guess sending one into space is as good a way as any. Checking the fridge would have probably been easier but that isn't as [H].

Logitech Launches Skype Cam for Living Room Video Chats

Tired of huddling your family around your computer screen to make video chat calls on Skype? Logitech has just rolled out its HD vid cam for your living room or den, using your HDTV to get the whole crowd in on the action all at once.

NASA's Curiosity Rover to Land on Mars This Weekend

A very long trip through the solar system is about to end in what NASA hopes to be a triumphant landing on the red planet in the wee hours of Monday morning. The package being delivered to Mars is a compact car-sized rover packed full of technical equipment to analyze the Martian terrain and search for signs of life, past or present. The event will be covered live on television and Internet beginning at 12am Eastern.

Control A PC By Stroking The Lily

Your keyboard will soon be replaced by a plant. When you are at work, the plant will be a cactus. I'm not kidding, watch the video.

Machine Pours Shots Each Time US Wins a Medal

Greatest. Invention. Ever. (Olympics version)

EPIC Pedal Car Mod

Never turn a modder loose on a child's pedal car unless you are fully prepared for the end results. Prepare yourself to see that "end result" strapped to a dyno half way through this video (1:28).

Google Street View Driving FAIL

I think we just figured out why the Street View maps aren't finished in some parts of the world.

Annoyed Gamer Episode 2

Warface - Reveal Trailer

Crytek is putting CryEngine 3 to use in a free shooter for the first time with Warface, so if nothing else, it will be a pretty game (with a silly name). It offers another class-based, near-future take on multiplayer war but it will stand out from others in the F2P shooter field by including co-op PvE missions. If the AI is any good, Crytek could be serving up a new way to get your shooter campaign fix, for free.

Why it stands out: If Warface's success in Russia is any indication, it's a blast. First launched in the Land of Rus, Warface boasts 2 million registered users and has set a concurrent player record. Europe and North America will find out what all the fuss is about sometime this fall.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Trailer

The influence of the Aliens franchise on games is pretty undeniable. Hell, James Cameron's 1988 entry to the series practically defines the space marine idea that has been utilized time and time again since Doom in 1993. So, it's kind of amazing that there hasn't been a truly great Aliens game in quite some time. Gearbox and Sega are looking to change that, though, by staying true to the series in the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines. And in this developer commentary trailer, they set out exactly how they're going to do that.

Here's the problem with sticking too close to the source material, though: It's been done. The idea of a group of marines fighting their way through hell on an abandoned planet isn't exactly new to the gaming space. So, for Gearbox to be able to pull off something really great with the franchise, they'll really have to be thinking outside of the box. But then again, what do I know? They found success with Borderlands, and that sort of lootfest isn't exactly out of the ordinary either.

Sims 3 Gets Yet Another Expansion Pack

Okay, so I first started experiencing expansion pack fatigue, well, years ago. How many Sims games do there need to be? How many expansions does each one even need? In a move that's surprised nobody, the Sims 3: Seasons has been announced.

I'm getting a curious sense of deja vu. Is it because the Sims 2 also had an expansion pack that was creatively titled "Seasons"? Nah, that couldn't be it -- that's way too obvious! I guess that feelgood pop soundtrack is pretty catchy, and I'd love to know why somebody is dressed in a hotdog-shaped suit, but I'm otherwise vaguely annoyed that EA is happy to churn out the same expansions, over and over.

It's kind of strange that Seasons has been announced already -- we're still waiting on the Sims 3: Supernatural, which hits next month. Seasons, meanwhile is due in November.
