Electronic Entertainment Expo E3 2012

After seeing some information on Nintendo's Wii U Console I got kind of got excited but for what? as we all know by now that Microsoft wont be launching there new hardware and Sony will be talking about software at E3 this year. So what is there to be excited for triple AAA titles like Farcry 3, Resident Evil 6, ArmA III, Borderlands 2, Crysis 3, Tomb Raider, Aliens: Colonial Marines and The Big Game List goes on.

This year I'll be watching all the press conferences at Gametrailers.com Press conferences begin on Monday, June 4th followed by the show on June 5th through June 7th. While I expect a ton of surprises to be revealed during the show, there are also plenty of games we know about ahead of time, like the ones above. I'll also be keeping in sync with Gamespot.com for interviews and demos. Hell lets just say I'll be all over the dame place, it'll be a every busy week for anyone that's into Gaming like myself.

Ubisoft Leak Reveals Wii U Release Date

Take all of this as mere rumor until the official news arrives in one week. According to the developer, the Nintendo console will launch on November 23, 2012 (worldwide?) and cost somewhere between $350 and $450 USD -- the price still isn't set in stone. The GPU of choice will be AMD's Radeon HD 6770 which will support not only DirectX 11, but Epic's Unreal Engine 4.

As for other specs, the rumor dump claims the console will sport 2 GB of RAM, 560 MB of which will be dedicated to the console's operating system. The Wii U's user interface will be customizable whereas the console itself will come packed with pre-installed software. It will also support touch-screen controllers.

On the Ubisoft front, slated games include Rayman Legends, The Avengers, Assassin's Creed 3 (which will run at 60fps at 1080p, compared to 720p on PS3 and Xbox 360) and Just Dance 4. Killer Freaks from Outer Space is set to arrive weeks after launch.

The Ubisoft developer also states that Crytek and Electronic Arts are working on Wii U products -- this factor is old news. Valve, on the other hand, is also reportedly bringing its Steam service to the new console in addition to ports of both Portal games. Achievements will be supported by the console as well.

Now here's an interesting tidbit: multiple versions of the Wii U are currently in the hands of developers. Does this mean Nintendo will offer tiered models? This seems unlikely given the company's past releases. The note seems to indicate that Nintendo may have provided multiple configurations to see what developers liked best while keeping the final cost to consumers reasonable.

Again, take all of this with a grain of salt. The Unreal Engine 4 report seems a little far-fetched given that it's finally able to run on a single Nvidia Kepler GPU -- unless Epic is offering a modified version of UE4 capable of running on Nintendo's hardware, that is. Rumor has it that Nintendo "tweaked" the console so that it could run Epic's latest engine. The company seemingly doesn't want to disappoint with this console, so UE4 could be a possibility.

Steam Wallet cards are real

US games retailer GameStop has announced in a press release that the rumoured Steam Wallet cards are, in fact, real and in stores now. The cards are available in $20 and $50 denominations and those funds can be used for anything on Steam, from games to workshop items.

“Offering Steam Wallet codes at GamesStop extends more options and convenience to gamers around the world” said Valve’s Director of Business Development Jason Holtman.

No word yet on whether Steam Wallet cards are coming to the UK. In either case, the move suggests that the relationship between Steam and traditional retail is warming, or at the very least that brick and mortar stores are learning that they can’t ignore the digital distribution juggernaut. It was only a few years ago that shops in the UK asked publishers to stop using Steam in their games.

Grand Theft Auto V due by end of March 2013

Grand Theft Auto V will ship by the end of March 2013, multiple analysts are predicting based on Take-Two's latest financial report. Yesterday, the company announced it is planning to haul between $1.75 and $1.85 billion for the year ending March 31, 2013. This marked increase over last year's haul factors in, according to analysts, the release of GTAV.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Release Date

Gearbox has announced that Aliens: Colonial Marines will be released globally on February 12th, 2013. The first-person shooter based on the characters and locales from the Aliens franchise is due out on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. A Wii U release is also confirmed, though the date will be revealed at a later time.

The game is confirmed to have single and co-op modes, as well as offer competitive multiplayer options. The single player mode starts with gamers boarding the supposedly abandoned U.S.S. Sulaco to find out what's happened to the crew, before discovering that they've unsurprisingly walked into a trap.

President of Gearbox Randy Pitchford said, "I am thrilled to announce the definitive launch date for Aliens: Colonial Marines. Aliens: Colonial Marines is the culmination of a life-time of inspiration from the films and relentless passion and drive from the exceptionally talented development team behind the scenes.”

Intel Begins Work on 7nm, 5nm Process Technologies

Intel’s chief executive Paul Otellini shed some light on Chipzilla’s plans and confirmed that the company already has 7nm and 5nm processes in mind. Intel is currently planning on setting up its fabs in Oregon, Arizona and Ireland for 14 nm production. According to a slide shown in a meeting with investors, this would ensure development of the 14nm process by 2015.

Otellini reminded that Intel’s R&D is quite deep and looks decades in advance. He said that the company’s 7nm and 5nm efforts are “on time and on target”, although we’re still talking about R&D phase.

Step Inside the Sound Booth for Batman: Arkham City

Celery makes for an awesome sound effects tool. The audio proof is delivered by the Dark Knight when he breaks criminals' bones in Batman: Arkham City. Yup, they did that with celery. In honor of Batman's upcoming GOTY edition, Rocksteady is providing a behind the scenes look at Arkham City's development, and today we learn how the studio made the punches, capes, and snapped limbs sound so good.

Batman: Arkham City GOTY, featuring the new DLC adventure, Harley Quinn's Revenge, is set to ship for consoles in September. We're still waiting on Rocksteady and Warners for the PC release date.

Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC Trailer

Harley Quinn has never been one to let slights against her beloved Joker slide. After the Dark Knight did the slighting in Batman: Arkham City, you knew there would be some serious repercussions. Well, Harley Quinn gets her revenge in the upcoming DLC for Arkham City, and it's up to Robin to pull Batman out of the fire. Get a glimpse at what's to come in the new Harley Quinn's Revenge trailer below.

There's no release date announced for the PC version of the DLC, but it will be coming to consoles May 29. If the release of Arkham City itself is any indication, I'd expect it to be coming about a month later. Regardless, it'll probably be worth the wait, as Robin will be a playable character and Harley Quinn looks really bummed out. Also, beating the hell out of goons with that stick looks seriously fun.

Far Cry 3 Gameplay Video Released

Far Cry 3 sure has been feeling the heat lately. It has a lot to live up to thanks to its predecessors, and, well, being in the dreaded FPS genre, it could volunteer at soup kitchens and help old ladies cross the street and still come under fire. But as this hot (ahem) new gameplay footage shows, Far Cry 3 is far from collapsing in a smoldering heap.

Scientists Made a Virus That Can Charge Your Batteries

The researchers said they have successfully engineered viruses that create electricity in response to mechanical stress. In an experiment, they coated a stamp-sized electrode with the virus, which then generated electricity as soon as the scientists tapped the surface of the stamp. This current design, the first product that uses the piezoelectric properties of a biological material, produces enough energy to power a small LCD. Future designs could be integrated, for example, in shoes or clothing - or common movable objects such as doors or wheels - to create much more energy, power gadgets or charge their batteries.

"More research is needed, but our work is a promising first step toward the development of personal power generators, actuators for use in nano-devices, and other devices based on viral electronics," says Seung-Wuk Lee, a faculty scientist in Berkeley Lab's Physical Biosciences Division and a UC Berkeley associate professor of bioengineering.

The initial results of the research is published in the a May 13 advance online publication of the journal Nature Nanotechnology. The research is quite apparently in its very nascent stages, but creating electricity from kinetic energy is a wildly popular research topic these days and this one clearly shows promise, as long as the viruses are as harmless as the researchers say.

This SSD Will Self-Destruct When Needed

RunCore announced the worldwide release of its InVincible SATA SSD, a drive so secure that it will physically self-destruct with the mere press of a button. Damage is caused by applying an over-current to the NAND flash memory, thereby physically destroying the chips.

RunCore's new line of destructive discs was developed for embedded computer systems that demand high-speed serial switched fabric interconnects for rugged design implementation and more flexible power ranges. The InVincible's self-destruction mode is just one of two ways users can eliminate sensitive data.

Chrome 19 Released, Will Sync Your Browser Tabs

The software now integrates tab sync, which syncs open taps and your browsing history in real time. As long as you are using Chrome for Android Beta on your phone or tablet, you can seamlessly pick up web browsing where you left off on your desktop. Even the back and forward buttons will work from machine to machine.

Tab sync requires users, like other Sync features (such as bookmarks, apps, extensions, history, and themes), to be signed in to a Google account. Google, however, said that not all Chrome users will be seeing the tab sync immediately. Instead, Google will pushing out tab sync "gradually over the coming weeks."
